Boxed Wine, Debriefs, and the Listener Mailbag
Ten episodes of guests. Ten weeks of other people's stories held with care. Episode eleven is what happens when Siren and Wendy pour a drink and hold their own for a while.
There's no guest this week. There's boxed wine, a Songbird-approved sparkling water situation, an ice maker working overtime, and two friends who have earned a slow night.
The Debrief
If you've been around the TikTok side of Tongue First, you know the last couple of weeks have been a lot. If you haven't — honestly, good. Stay that way.
Siren and Wendy talk through it once, plainly, and then put it down. What it feels like to catch people you trusted talking behind your back. What emotional manipulation looks like when it's crying instead of apologizing. Why accountability is the entire ballgame — and why grace, once offered and refused, doesn't get offered twice.
And then the line that ends it: keep hating from outside the club. That's the whole statement. They've moved on, and this episode is proof.
Tattoo Stories
From there the wine kicks in and the episode softens into one of the best hangs of the season.
The great Tongue First tattoo debate — Wendy's rainbow fruit fly with a backwards hat versus Siren's dainty tongue-and-microphone — remains unresolved and deeply on brand. Wendy estimates her tattoo count at around two hundred. Siren owns exactly twenty and exclusively stemless wine glasses, for related reasons.
But it goes somewhere realer, too. Wendy tells the story of her first tattoo — a rose, at thirteen, from a homemade gun, put there by the person who hurt her. And the story of covering it two years ago with something new, chosen, and beautiful, done by an artist she loves. Taking your own skin back is a kind of healing they don't put in pamphlets.
There's also the tattoo artist dream — the one Wendy chased at forty-two with a Procreate tablet, a sketchbook, and months of drawing every day, before an honest mentor and an honest look in the mirror let her set it down. Sometimes the dream isn't the career. Sometimes it's just proof you're still willing to start things.
The Mailbag
And then the real reason this episode exists: your words, read out loud.
Siren and Wendy open the reviews and comments from Apple Podcasts and Spotify and go through them one by one. The ones that made them laugh — including confirmation that the masc lesbian uniform (thirty pairs of Vans, black band tees, two chains, watch worn to sleep) is real and documented. The ones that made them feel seen — "a soft place to land for voices that need to be heard" is going to live in the show's DNA forever.
And the heavy ones. Comments from listeners carrying real stories — survival, family rejection, protecting their peace, kids who adore them. Siren and Wendy don't rush past a single one. Some comments get laughter. Some get a p
That's what a mailbag episode is, it turns out. Not a gimmick — a thank you.
The Rest of It
Because it is still Tongue First: ice chewing ASMR performed in stereo, redheads as a documented weakness, Buffy the Vampire Slayer finally getting gay, birthday beach cake plans involving no silverware whatsoever, and a dingle hopper streak that survived by roughly ninety seconds.
Leave a comment or a review wherever you listen. There is now a very real chance it gets read on the show. That's a promise and a threat.
