Phone Scams, Love Languages, and Spicy Group Chats
Some episodes have a plan. This is not one of those episodes.
Episode five of Tongue First starts exactly where you'd expect a Siren and Wendy solo episode to start — with a completely unrelated debate about whether lesbians prefer cats or dogs — and then takes about fifteen hard left turns before it's done.
This week it's just the two of them, plus producer K-Rock and Nakiah holding down the background with the kind of facial expressions that remind you why video podcasting exists.
A Week From Hell
Before the episode even finds its footing, Wendy is already in it. Between a CheapOAir booking disaster that cost her an extra three hundred dollars just to come home on the right day, and a phone scammer who posed as her bank and walked away with eighteen hundred dollars, it has been a week.
The scam in particular is worth paying attention to. It was sophisticated, convincing, and designed to have an answer for every question. Wendy's takeaway — and the show's — is simple: if your bank texts you and says they're going to call you, they're not. Hang up. Call the number on the back of your card.
It's a PSA wrapped in chaos, which is very Tongue First.
The Group Chat
From there, the conversation takes a turn into the group chat. If you've been following along on TikTok you may already know what we're talking about. If you don't — nineteen people, a very consensual premise, and a daily level of energy that has apparently become its own ecosystem.
What starts as a funny story about sapphic friendship quickly becomes something more. Because somehow, talking about bodies and comfort and being seen by your friends leads directly into one of the most genuine conversations the show has had about what sapphic relationships actually feel like from the inside.
Tender. Soft. The kind of eye contact that makes the rest of the world disappear. The depth of connection that doesn't need anything else to justify it.
Love, Heartbreak, and Knowing Your Worth
This is where the episode earns it.
Wendy talks about heartbreak with a honesty that is hard to sit with and harder to look away from. About what it costs to be consistent when the person across from you isn't. About four days of silence that took everything she had. About being almost forty five and still waiting for someone to show up the way she shows up for everyone else.
Siren talks about desire. About what it meant to spend most of her life not believing she was someone who could be wanted. About the shift that happened when she realized she was — and that she didn't need anyone else's approval to know it.
Together they get into love languages, what it looks like to communicate love versus receive it, and why words of affirmation mean something completely different when you've spent years with people who said the right things and did the wrong ones.
Found Family and Starting Over
Siren opens up about something that doesn't come up often enough — the cost of leaving. For over a decade, her entire social world existed inside the church. When she left, she lost nearly all of it. Not because she burned it down, but because the relationships were built around a role she no longer played.
What she has now is different. People who show up with no agenda. Friends who text because they want to, not because they need something. Found family that holds without strings attached.
It's one of the quieter moments of the episode and one of the most important.
The Rest of It
Because it's still Tongue First, there's also a passionate generational breakdown of lesbian fashion, a revelation about the trans pride flag that genuinely delighted everyone in the room, a conspiracy theory about chokers as the unofficial trans woman uniform, and a debate about who — between Siren and Wendy — is actually the bigger lesbian.
The verdict is inconclusive. The argument was worth having.
